Here’s a link to a great article from the Urban Institute at UNCC from a while back. https://ui.uncc.edu/story/fifty-species-challenge
The idea is to challenge yourself, your family or a friend, to be able to recognize fifty native species, plants and/or animals. You can start with birds since this is a great time of year to do Project Feederwatch. And then as spring comes on you can begin to look for spring flowers, trees, migrating birds. In the summer you can focus on insects if you like. It’s really not so important what type of living thing you focus on but rather to be focused on learning about the natural world. Hope you’ll take up the challenge.
