Theresa Allen, manager of the Farm of Davidson College, introduced us to this 3-plus-acre farm which provides naturally-grown, local produce to Davidson College students. We saw tiny seeds and then the produce they produced: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, squash, melons, strawberries, and herbs. We watched worms composting, planted sunflower seeds to take home, and munched on fresh celery, tomatoes, potatoes, beans, and homemade mint cookies and zucchini bread made from the garden produce. We then toured Little Bent Creek Farm, where the Smith-Pariola family introduced us to their goats and chickens, showing us how to hold the chickens, gather eggs from their nests, and groom the goats, and feed the pet bunny.
