The Davidson Lands Conservancy’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Davidson resident Autumn Michael has been named as our new Executive Director.  Autumn succeeds Roy Alexander, our Executive Director since 2006 who passed away unexpectedly in January of 2015.

Rob Van Epps, president of the conservancy’s board, praised Michael for her experience and local connections.

“The DLC is excited to have found a new executive director who has not only an abundance of land trust experience and knowledge, but who is also engrained in the community and has a local touch,” Van Epps said in an email. “Autumn’s passion for preserving open space will carry on the standard set by our former director, Roy Alexander. We look forward to this new era in DLC’s history.”

Ms. Michael’s prior experience includes several years on the Board of the Davidson Lands Conservancy, as well as a role as the Executive Director of Historic Charlotte, a non-profit focused on historic preservation.  She is an attorney by trade and continues to teach as an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania and UNC-Greensboro.  Autumn has been actively involved in the Davidson community for several years, both as an elder at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church and as a parent leader at Davidson Elementary School.

The Davidson Lands Conservancy was formed in 2000 as a local land trust dedicated to preserving open space for the benefit of its residents and wildlife.  The DLC currently holds easements, lease agreements, or serves as the monitoring agent for over 500 acres in the Davidson region.  Additionally, through advocacy and collaboration, the DLC and Roy Alexander were instrumental in creating the West Branch Nature Preserve and in preserving Abersham as open space.
