If you have been lucky enough to have a thunderstorm or shower in your area lately you may start to see some fungi or mushrooms pop up in your yard or in the woods near you. One of the interesting things about fungi is the really unusual shapes some of them take. I won’t begin to try to identify all the different ones I saw on a walk in the mountains recently but I’ll just say that some are shaped like what we usually think of as a mushroom. Some come in very different colors: red, yellow, brown, violet. Some are very smelly! Some look like coral or like stones. Some are very small and others are very large. Some are on the ground and others are growing on stumps or on trees. Here’s a link to an interesting article about fungi. It may answer some of your questions or it may make you want to learn more. Enjoy! http://www.mushroomexpert.com/yard.html
